Time: 15 minutes + dry time (for set of 5)
Materials: glass votives, sponge brush, Deco Art Chalky Finish paint, sealer
If there’s one thing I miss about winter as an Midwest transplant living in the Pacific Northwest, it’s the snow! What can I say, I’d gladly take pretty white flakes over rain any day. So to bring a bit of that into our holiday decor this year, I decided to make these wintery votives. They only take 15 minutes to make AND you can enter to win the paint supplies you’ll need to make your own (see below)!
I used the color ‘Everlasting’ to achieve a wintery snow effect. The ultra-matte finish helps to really give the votives a frosted look that you can’t really achieve with standard acrylic paint. I was able to find all of the materials at Michael’s (even the delicious smelling candles!).
Lightly dab the paint around the base of your votive with a sponge brush. Be sure to dab and not paint so that you get a light, transparent texture.
Set aside and let dry (doesn’t take long at all). To ensure your paint lasts, since it can easy be scratched off the glass, you’ll want to seal with either Americana Decor creme wax or varnish. Add your candles and enjoy all winter long!
Easy right?! Be sure to visit the DecoArt Chalky Finish website for more chalk paint ideas and inspiration.
If you’d like to recreate this project for yourself, Americana Decor Chalky Finish paint is available in Michaels in the wood and finishes aisle. Or you can enter below to win 8 colors of your choice, clear and dark creme waxes, Soft Touch varnish, waxing brush and 2 stencils of your choice!
