Happy Monday friends! I know typically for city guides I give you all the dirt you in on where to go and what to do, but this one has a bit of a twist to it since I didn’t actually stay in Wildwood. Why even share then, I’m sure you might be wondering. Well, I came across Tyler Haughey’s photo series of retro motels and decided to go and do one of my own!
It turns out as a beach town in off season, everything is completely empty. There was even one point where I was the only person on the beach. I was able to explore freely and take photos without having to wait for people to get out of the shot. Plus, guys, how could I not share these colors with you?! They’re a pastel spring dream. Okay, okay, enough talking! Here are the photos!
Well it’s been about nine months since I moved to Philly, which still feels insane, but I couldn’t be happier with my decision! Not only is the city full of new things to do all the time, but the people that I’ve met along the way have been so kind and supportive. Honestly I’m not sure things could’ve gone any better and I consider myself very lucky.
That’s what makes today pretty wonderful because I’ll be taking over Visit Philly’s Instagram account! My theme is summer fun in the sun, so expect some vibrant snaps from several different neighborhoods here.
Here’s a bit of a sneak peek! It unfortunately won’t be all pink, but I’m hoping that you’ll be able to see a glimpse into the beauty that’s here. It was pretty fun to step outside of my brand and just push myself through another creative lens. Sometimes I get so wrapped up in curation that I forget about other facets of my creative self.
Anyway that is another topic for another day! Back to the fun stuff!
If I had to pick one thing that makes me the happiest in life, it’s travel. I’ll essentially go anywhere at anytime and I try to do that as much as I possibly can. Coney Island has been on my bucket list for some time now, and now that I’m only a 2 hour drive away, I figured it was time to make it happen!
For those of you that don’t know, Coney Island is a neighborhood in NYC (a borough of Brooklyn) that also has a beach, boardwalk and an amusement park. It’s free to get in and you just pay for the games and rides you want. I drove up from Philly on Friday morning and was able to park right out front. Parking was $2 for two hours. If you’re looking for a cute date spot or just a day getaway, this place is perfection.
Maybe it’s the hand painted signs, or the fact that I’ve seen Coney Island in enough movies, but the place has such a nostalgic feel to it. Not to mention how colorful and surprisingly clean everything was. I’m sure that changes based on the day, but for a Friday afternoon the crowds were low and everything was wonderful (aside from the 100°F weather)
One of my favorite parts from my visit was the Coney Art Walls. It’s basically an outdoor museum of street art that you can walk through, but also grab food from a food truck and sit amongst it. Again, if you’re looking to nail date night, or just score some dope Instagram photos, make plans to visit asap.
And of course no visit would be complete without a ride on the Wonder Wheel. An adult ticket was $8 and the wheel goes around two times. You can choose between a stationary car or one that swings. The pods are caged, so it might not be worth it if you’re only on it for an amazing beach photo. I say do it anyway because it’s fun!
Even though this was my first trip, it will not be my last. I’m also excited to head back in the fall when I can be out in the sun for a bit longer.
Have you ever been?! I’d love to hear any tips or tricks you have for visiting!
Because a lot of you have asked about my recommendations for what to do in Portland, I thought it would be fun to do a city guide! These are the places I came to love over the three years I lived there, so although It’s a bit lengthy, I guarantee that you’ll have a great time at any of the following:
– Skip the hype of Voodoo and head to Blue Star or Pip’s for a delicious donut.
– Screen Door is the spot for southern food and the best mac and cheese.
– Pix won for the best champagne menu IN THE WORLD, but their macarons and french desserts are also to die for.
– The family style dishes at Tasty N Sons are great for either brunch or dinner.
