George Floyd, Breonna Taylor, Ahmaud Arbery. These recent murders didn’t happen in isolation, but rather they’re result of a system built on the backs of the oppressed that has profited since the foundation of our country. It’s system that I, and other white people, continue to benefit from solely based on the color of our skin. And it’s time for that to be dismantled and rebuilt.
I pledge to you here and now that I will do more to actively seek out Black shops, artists, makers, voices and lift them up with my platform. I will loudly call out racist behavior by my peers, friends, and family. I will hold the brands I work with accountable and demand space for non-white and LGBTQ+ voices to be heard. I will never be on another conference panel that lacks the power of diverse voices.
This is only the beginning of a lifetime of work ahead. If I should make missteps along the way, please call me out. I’m here to learn, to grow, and to do the work. I am in this fight and I’m not going anywhere.
