Create a focal point in your home with a disco ball fireplace! This project will infuse a sense of fun and whimsy into your decor, effortlessly transforming an otherwise unused space. I’m sharing all my tips, including where to find affordable disco balls, how to maintain and clean them, and much more below!
We had a surplus of disco balls left after our wedding that of course I didn’t want to part with. Instead of keeping them in a box in storage, I needed to find a place to make them part of our everyday decor. As you can see by now, they found a home in the fireplace! Not only does this brighten the room, but it also adds that pop of fun the room needed. Here’s how I made our disco ball fireplace:

While a fireplace is the space I used, you can fill any unused space in your home with disco balls! A few variations could be:
- A glass cabinet– think a disco ball hutch!
- A book shelf
- Large glass vase (use small ones for a tabletop version)
Where to Buy Affordable Disco Balls

I won’t lie to you, disco balls are often cheap. If you need to buy a large quantity of disco balls, I found mine here! I searched all over the internet and they were the cheapest I could find when doing the sourcing for our wedding. They’re also pretty good quality and I’d buy from them again if I needed more in the future.
You might also want to check Facebook Marketplace around the summer wedding season or contact your wholesale floral market if you have one available in your city. I’ve also seen a few good deals at 5 Below.
Here’s what I ended up using to fill my fireplace:
– Variety of disco balls: 4″, 6″ 8″ and 10″
– Large disco ball (mine was 16″) for the base
– Tape (optional)
As you can imagine, there really isn’t more to this how-to than just putting disco balls in the fireplace. But I do have a few techniques + tips that I think are helpful when working through it!
Adding Disco Balls to Your Fireplace
1. Be careful! Remember that disco balls are still glass. If they slide around or drop when you’re working, be careful when handling. I did get a piece of glass in my finger at one point, so wearing gloves would be smart.
2. Start with the largest disco ball on the bottom and build a base around there. Once you have the pieces in and sturdy (these are the pieces that shouldn’t roll at all), start filling in the holes and spaces from there.
3. The 4″ disco balls are the real MVPs. They help close those small gaps you’re bound to get, but they also help the fireplace feel really full.
4. If you’re finding that one disco ball just won’t stay in place, add tape to the back. It also helps to try a size larger or smaller to make sure you have the best fit.
How to Clean Disco Balls
To maintain the shine of the disco ball fireplace, you’ll need to clean it from time to time. It will absolutely collect dust being out in the open! Here’s how I clean mine:
- For weekly cleanings, try using a duster wand
- For a deeper clean remove disco balls and clean with glass cleaner and soft cloth. I prefer the foaming cleaner.
- Watch the cleaning process here
Again, these are made of glass, so be as gentle as possible and wear protective gloves to protect your hands from any small broken pieces.

Our fireplace does work, so I’ll most likely need to find a new place to store these in a few months. In the meantime, and for those months we aren’t lighting a fire, it really is such a fun way to liven up the space.
10/10 highly recommend this easy disco ball decor project!
