Inspiration for crafting can be found just about anywhere. And in this project’s case, it came from casually shopping online one night. I fell in love with a Kate Spade x Keds shoe, but not the price tag so I decided to take it on as a DIY!
It’s a fairly simple project to do and cost almost a fourth of the price, so really there’s no reason NOT to do this one! Here’s how to make your own confetti shoes:What You’ll Need
– White cotton shoe
– Fabric safe paint (I love Martha Stewart’s Multi-Surface)
– Paint brush
– Pink laces (optional)
For your paint brush, make sure the end is the right size for your dots (which is how we’ll be making the pattern on the shoe). The links are for how you can recreate the same look, but you can use any color or style shoe you want. This would actually be the perfect project to bring life back into an older pair of shoes too.
How to Make Polka Dot Shoes
The tutorial for this project is fairly straight forward.
Dip the tip of your brush in paint and then on the shoe to create polka dots. You may want to practice on a separate surface at first to get a hang of it. It also helps to stuff your shoe with paper so that the surface is firm for stamping.
Wipe the end clean and repeat the process with the next color. Continue until the shoe is covered with dots! For an extra pop of color, swap out or dye your laces a different color (I naturally went with pink).
Let shoes dry fully before wearing (I suggest overnight). Then you’re ready to take the party with you wherever you go!
And that’s all there is to the project! Here’s a comparison to the original shoe inspiration. I love that I was able to customize the concept to my own favorite colors.
