It’s hard to believe that tomorrow is the first day of September. If you’re in denial that summer will soon be over, or just need a calming moment to deal with the rush of fall, you’ll want to make these DIY lavender candles! Here’s how:
What You’ll Need to Make Lavender Candles
– Atelier Stella bowls
– Wax
– Thermometer
– Wicks
– Lavender fragrance oil
– Pouring pot
– Hot glue gun
– Scissors
Instead of using a glass jar, I used these cute bowl from West Elm (hello, how adorable is that face). They’re out of stock online now, but I saw some in stores the other day. They also have a vase version if you didn’t want to use them for candles! If you are using another bowl, just be careful to make sure it’s candle safe.
How to Make Lavender Candles
1. Using the double boiler method, melt your wax in the pouring pot on the stove.
2. As the wax is melting, prep your bowls by glueing your wicks (about an inch apart) in place with a dap of hot glue. If you’re using a smaller bowl, you might only need one wick. For a standard size, I recommend two wicks to get an even burn pool. To keep your wicks upright, wrap them around a skewer or pencil until you hit the rim of the bowl where they can rest.
3. When wax is completely melted, and the temperate is at 175°F on your thermometer, add your scent and stir well.
4. Pour wax into your bowl. You can even add dried lavender here to give your candles that extra scent boost and a bit of color.
5. Let set until wax hardens, snip your wicks, and you’re done!
This was my first time making candles and I really couldn’t believe how easy it actually is! You’re really just melting wax to reform it in a jar.
Now that I have the supplies (which is really the only reason I didn’t do it in the first place), I have a feeling I’m going to be making a few of these for holiday gifts!
Have you ever made your own DIY lavender candles before? How did it go?!
