What You’ll Need
– Spray paint in variety of colors
– Cloth tarp or cardboard
– Gold leaf (optional)
You’ll also want to pick up a plastic primer and a seal spray to make sure to paint on your spiders doesn’t chip over the years.
How to Paint Plastic Spiders
- Work outside and lay down a cloth tarp or cardboard
- Set up groups of spiders with spacing in between (one for pink, one yellow, etc).
- Spray your plastic primer and let dry
- Spray with color and let dry for at least an hour
- Spray with a sealer and let dry for 2-4 hours before moving inside.
Note that this project is best to do on a day when there isn’t a lot of wind. Plastic spiders are very light and can move around with a breeze. Protect them as much as you can in your paint environment to avoid smudges.
How to Decorate a Pumpkin
Now that the spiders are painted and dry, it’s time decorate the faux pumpkin!
I applied a dab of hot glue to the back of my spider and placed on the pumpkin. You don’t need a lot to hold the spider in place. You also don’t want to use too much glue that it comes out the sides of the spiders.
For an extra pop of color, I applied gold leaf to the stem! It’s not a necessary step, but it does add a bit more fun. If you decide to do that, just follow the instructions on the back of the box.
Mix and match this colorful fake pumpkin with real pumpkins for fun fall decor. And don’t be afraid to add more spiders, I promise they won’t bite!
