Spring is officially here! If you’ve been thinking about starting a garden this season, let me be the friend to enable you with these garden tools for beginners, because you absolutely should start!
Of course you really don’t need anything to garden but soil and seeds. These are just the tools I used last year to start my own garden, and they made my life so much easier.
There’s a lot left for me to learn, so if you have any favorite tools, please add them in the comments below!
Tools to Buy Secondhand
- Wicker baskets are great for garden hauls and thrift stores have endless options.
- Tools. you can buy these new, but they’re at every Estate Sale I’ve ever been to often for $1-$3. Also check to see if you have a local garden club.
- Gardening Clothes. Why buy new what you’re just going to get dirty? Check the men’s section for a quality oversized button up.

Honorable Mention
Quality compost!! Cheap top soil tends to have fillers inside which leads to more weeding. Save yourself the trouble and invest in quality from the start.
Look at My Garden
I started all of my seeds using the milk jug method. It may be too late to use this process for this year’s season, but save it for next year! Watch until the end of a sneak peek at what my setup looks like.
This year I plan to expand the landscaping around the garden beds, so stay tuned for more!
