I first discovered Salt + Stone Pottery through Instagram and have been head over heels with her pottery, and top-notch behind the scene shots, ever since! I’m so excited that she agreed to be part of this new series and think you guys will just love her and her work. Without further ado, meet Jade!
1. Tell us a little about yourself.
Hi! I’m Jade. I was born in Vero Beach, Florida but I’ve lived all over {Boston, Austin, Miami Beach, and currently Los Angeles}. I am the creator of Salt + Stone, a collection of one-of-a-kind handmade ceramic goods.
2. Have you always been a maker or did you pursue other careers first?
Although the medium has changed over the years and it hasn’t necessarily always been my main focus, I have always been a maker. From a very young age, I found the best way to express myself was through art. I have dabbled with everything from paper craft to woodworking to painting and ultimately went to college for fine art before finding my passion in clay. For nearly six years, I worked for Anthropologie creating displays and merchandising product. They place a high value on their customer experience from an aesthetics perspective, which means as a visual manager, you are constantly learning. Clay, paper, cork, wax, wood, cloth, metal, plastic.. all of these materials are in my wheelhouse.
3. What made you decide to start selling your work?
When I first began honing my craft, I would give pieces away to family and friends.. the response nearly every time was something to the effect of ‘this is beautiful! You should be selling this!’ While I knew the audience was biased, they also gave me a confidence to at least explore the idea of selling my work. It was also then that I realized I needed to be selling my work to be able to continue creating.
4. Who or what inspires you?
I’m inspired by all sorts of things.. nature is endlessly fascinating to me, I love to travel and explore new places, music has a way of bringing out different sides of my creativity, colors, textures, people who are continuously bettering themselves,  even certain scents have their own way of inspiring me.
5. Tell us one fun fact about yourself!
My husband and I spent the better part of the last two years on a road trip around North America.
