It’s hard to believe I took this table home with me from the thrift store, but what can I say, I’m a sucker for a makeover project. After some basic TLC, all this table really needed was a fresh coat of paint. So naturally my first stop after leaving the store was to head to The Home Depot to gather everything I needed.
To prep the surface for painting, I peeled the existing paper as much as I could, then sanded the rest. I used the leftover Behr® Marquee™ Paint (in Cameo White #MQ3-32) from my office makeover as the table base and let dry. I then used ScotchBlue™ Painter’s Tape Multi-Surface with Advanced Edge-Lock™ Paint Line Protector to tape off my design. I started with the diagonal line then based my stripes from that.
While the Multi-Surface worked great for achieving crisp lines, it did peal a bit of the white paint up and I had to make touch ups. If you’re doing something similar, I recommend using ScotchBlue™ Painter’s Tape Delicate Surfaces for taping over freshly painted surfaces. Because really, who has time for touchups?
For the tabletop design, I was inspired by Charlie Harper’s Serengeti Spaghetti. Because I wanted the table to be colorful verses black and white I used Behr® Marquee™ Paint in Aruba Green (#MQ4-16) and Noble Blush (#MQ4-4) for the top. The legs are Caicos Turquoise (#MQ4-21).
I knew I liked the paint when I used it on my walls, but it really works well for furniture projects too. It only took one coat and it dries relatively fast (which is obviously always a pro). The Wooster® Pro Roller and Brush also helped for a smooth application (no bristles fell out and into the paint!).
This project only took be about 4 hours to complete and cost a fraction of what it would to buy the table brand new.
