Time: 40 minutes
Materials: pencils, paint, washi tape, paint brush
This week is going to be a fun one friends! I’ve teamed up with a lovely group of bloggers (Tan, MJ, Joy, Lidy, Lyndsay, & Sara) to bring you projects to kick off the back to school season. I’ll be posting a full roundup on Friday, but be sure to stop by their blogs each day in the meantime to follow along!
Not only will these color blocked pencils make a lovely teacher’s gift, they’d also be a great gift for yourself too. Go ahead, you earned it!
Tape off the first section you want to paint with washi tape. I’ve found that washi tape doesn’t have as strong of a hold as other tapes, so it won’t peel your paint off when you remove it.
Paint your first section, peel the tape right away, then let dry. You should be able to correct any painting errors with a damp towel if you can get to it fast enough.
Tape off the second section, then repeat the painting process.
Fill a cup with rice then place your pencils inside. The rice will keep your pencils from falling over while they’re drying, cool right?! Thanks for the great tip Sarah!
Once dry, sharpen and put these babies to good use! And if you’re not into color blocking you can always paint stripes instead.
