Now that fall weather is officially here in New York, it’s time to cozy up! My instinct is to always shop for darker colors in the winter because that’s typically what’s easily available, but not this year! Color has always played a role in how I feel happy in my home that I’m going to try harder to expand that mindset to my clothes.Â
These dip dyed socks are the perfect way to add a touch of color to any wardrobe. They look great peeking out from the top of a boot and the dip dyed look is so cute for just lounging around the house in! Here’s how:
Materials
– Cotton socks (these are thin and comfortable!)
– Rit dye
– Bowl
– Hot water
– Gloves (just in case!)
This project sounds exactly like what it is– dippin’ a sock into dye! Fill a bowl with hot water and add your dye according to the instructions. Dip your socks directly down into the dye bath for about 2-3 minutes, almost like you would with a tea bag in a mug. Leave longer if you want a deeper color and remember, the color looks darker when it’s wet.
Now the trick to this look is only rinsing the part of the sock that you dyed; be sure to keep the white part dry. Once you rinse until the water is clear, hang to dry (I draped mine over my kitchen sink). That’s all there really is to it!
It’s the easiest of projects, but I love looking down at my shoes and seeing that pop of color, especially now that we’re getting less and less sunlight each day. Plus there’s something about the dye that gives it that elevated handmade feel which makes them feel more than just an ordinary pair of socks!
